* COMPUTER PROCESSOR
REQUIREMENTS
- Lower speeds may function depending on other components; higher
speeds may be required for very large graphics formats.
- Do not mix processor manufacturers. Either use two Intel-based computers
or two AMD-based computers. Mixed computer processors can exhibit
noticeable timing issues.
** OPERATING SYSTEM
MEMORY: Shared or Integrated video memory (as opposed to dedicated or
on-board video memory) increases the requirement for Operating System/Base
Memory. Add at least 256 MB of system memory to the minimum if shared
or integrated video memory is purchased.
*** VIDEO CARD REQUIREMENTS
Video cards are the most significant factor in "usability" since
they directly affect the display. Feedback is independent of video speed,
but responsiveness to keystrokes is not.
WARNING: You must be able to use DirectX version 9.0a or better.
However, if you upgrade your version of DirectX to the current version,
you must first be sure that your card has drivers that are compatible
with that version of DirectX. If not, it will be necessary to replace
your video card or laptop system.
- Displays are affected by the amount of on-card memory and the resolution
you choose. You must have at least 32 MB of on-card
memory, but if you use larger resolutions (e.g., 1024x768) or higher
color sets, you'll need more memory. Most currently available cards
provide 64 MB of memory.
Example: The minimum resolution of 800x600 with 16-bit color setting
requires 32 MB of memory. An increase to 32-bit color setting requires
64 MB of video card memory.
